Bite into something substantial as Batch 22 Bakery gears up to open its doors in Los Gatos. Renowned for their "pudges," the bakery has been a pickup and delivery affair until now. According to SF Eater, these cookies command a dedicated following with their six-ounce heft, triple the size of a standard treat. Come May 15, Combs and Wong, the team behind the bakery, are set to invite cookie aficionados to their new stationary spot, stationed at 15466 Los Gatos Blvd, #113, seven days a week.

The venture started as a cottage bakery at home during the pandemic, with baker Amy Wong and Lawrance Combs bringing the cookies to life. Now, they're ready to roll out their storefront, hosting a soft opening preceding the grand launch. "Now that it looks immaculate, everybody is walking by the space, checks in, and is like, ‘Can we buy cookies?’" Combs told SF Eater. Batch 22 Bakery is also creating buzz on social media, with a recent Instagram post proclaiming, "Soft open: grab a ticket in our link in bio! This is meant to be a more intimate experience so you can enjoy the space as our staff get up to speed."

The selection at Batch 22 extends beyond the classic chocolate chip cookie, with innovative flavors like purple ube dulcey and freshly introduced dark chocolate orange, "featuring a fudgy dough and bright zest," as revealed to SF Eater. Wong fell for the thick-cookie style in New York and has diligently fine-tuned her recipes ever since. Their commitment to quality and uniqueness is reflected in each cookie, with each new flavor considered a heavyweight hitter among their offerings. The bakery is set to operate Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 9 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday from 12 to 5 PM.

Designed by Studio Banaa, the shop showcases a distinctly minimal and playful vibe, said to conjure a "Japanese cartoonish feeling." Wong stressed the importance of personality to SF Eater, explaining, "We didn't want every other coffee shop's aesthetic. We wanted personality." A defining feature is the wall mural designed by Emily Cheng, dubbing "the potato chef" as Batch 22's charismatic mascot, which complements the bakery's unique character.
