Bedford firefighters executed a challenging rescue operation this past Saturday, pulling a man from a treacherous situation after he fell down an embankment near Tinker's Creek. The rescue, which took place off Taylor Road close to Viaduct Park, began around 3 p.m., as reported by Cleveland19. The creek's rising floodwaters heightened the man's peril, threatening to sweep him further away as he lay immobile.
Adding to the precarious situation, the local terrain's steep grades and effectively barricaded his path to safety. After first responders arrived on the scene, they had to deploy special equipment to stabilize and reach the man. FOX8 relays from Bedford Assistant Fire Chief Tim Grote that the neighbor's calls to 911 were prompted after hearing the man's screams. Firefighters performed the rescue without sustaining any injuries.
The man, who is 56 years old, sustained multiple injuries, including broken bones. "A member of the Bedford Fire Department was able to access the patient, stabilize their injuries and determine additional medical care would be needed for rapid transport to a Trauma Center," the Bedford Fire Department detailed in a press release obtained by WKYC. His current condition has yet to be released.
