A Bellevue neighborhood near the Redmond city line has recovered water service after a water main break led to the formation of a large sinkhole early Monday morning. The incident, which prompted immediate attention from local crews around 6:30 a.m., occurred at the intersection of 148th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 20th Street, north of the Bellevue Highlands, KING5 reports.
The disruption had its impact, rerouting traffic, and closing businesses dependent on the water supply, The Seattle Times noted. Authorities managed the situation by redirecting the flux of vehicles that typically pass through the busy intersection, which lies conveniently on the Redmond-Bellevue border. The Redmond Police Department indicated that the intersection would remain closed for an extended period, as damage assessments and necessary repairs unfolded.
According to KOMO News, the extensive damage caused by the water main break creates not just immediate but lasting challenges for the area. The Redmond Police Department warned that water and power services would be affected for an undetermined period.
