A Bellwood man is in custody following a Sunday morning shooting in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood that left another man wounded, Chicago police announced Monday.
Identified as a 40-year-old James Hill, the suspect is facing severe legal consequences, specifically charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder for his role in the altercation that escalated to gun violence, according to the Sun-Times. The reported shooting took place around 7:51 a.m. on the 3800 block of West 14th Street, wherein Hill allegedly shot a 35-year-old man following a verbal dispute, the police said, and he was apprehended within a mere six minutes of the incident.
The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and is reportedly in fair condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. Despite the violence unraveling in mere moments, the exact motive behind the shooting or the nature of the relationship between Hill and the victim remains obscured from public knowledge, Fox 32 Chicago reports.
Hill, now charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm, awaits a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
