The Big Lots retail chain, familiar to many for its home goods, furniture, and seasonal offerings, is amidst a regeneration. In Georgia, as part of its phased resurgence from bankruptcy, five store locations are slated to reopen their doors, injecting new life into their respective local economies. Set to begin operations again today, these stores will join others in different states as they gradually reintroduce the Big Lots brand to consumers.
Ahead of the reopening, Variety Wholesalers, the company which ushered the acquisition of more than 200 Big Lots locations, has been overseeing the revival with a strategic approach. According to The Hill, Big Lots had previously shuttered more than 400 stores in 2024 as a result of economic headwinds. With inflation and shifting customer habits pressuring the company, the climb back has been cautiously optimistic, as detailed by FOX5 Atlanta.
Lisa Seigies, President and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, expressed her enthusiasm for the brand's comeback. In a statement, having additional merchandise expected to arrive weekly, she mentioned, "We're thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,” reported 11Alive. As the stores reopen, their inventory will scale up, building anticipation for the grand celebration planned for the fall.
The Georgia locations set to reopen are located in Dallas at 260 Merchants Square, Marietta at 2932 Canton Road Suite 210, Smyrna at 3791 S. Cobb Drive SE Suite G, Buford at 4125 Highway 20 Suite A-2, and Vidalia at 2305 E. 1st Street. While exact reopening dates for each store have not been disclosed today, it is expected that business operations will briskly resume after this date. Further openings across the states of North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia are also projected in the upcoming weeks, signaling a broadened commitment by the company to its revitalization strategy.
According to the reveal by Variety Wholesalers, this week marks the continuation of a major pivot for Big Lots. Over 70 locations are part of this current reopening phase, with the remaining earmarked stores to follow suit through early June. This series of events will culminate in a widespread grand opening celebration towards the end of the year as Big Lots solidifies its post-bankruptcy position.
