The exhibit titled "Boca Raton History: A Timeline" is set to mark the 100th anniversary of Boca Raton's incorporation and will feature pivotal moments that have shaped the coastal city since its establishment.
The exhibit is an exposé on the transformative years that turned what once was a humble railway farm town into a sought-after Florida address. Alongside the comprehensive timeline, the exhibit presents "Boomtime Boca: Boca Raton in the 1920s," which includes photos from a bygone era that were pivotal to the town's development. As the Historical Society’s Curator Susan Gillis pointed out, "This exhibit is a quick look at the amazing history of the little railroad farm town that grew into one of Florida’s most desirable addresses," according to a statement obtained by the official Boca Raton website.
Visitors might be surprised to learn quirky facts about Boca Raton, including the actual meaning of its name. Curator Gillis adds, “Did you know that Boca Raton doesn’t actually mean “rat’s mouth,” and that the original Boca de Ratones was on what is now Miami Beach?” as noted by Boca Raton website.
The free exhibit will open its doors to the public from June 16 to July 25 at the Downtown Library, located at 400 NW 2nd Avenue.
