Yesterday, San Marcos saw a wave of anxiety as San Elijo Middle School faced a bomb threat just before the clock struck 1:00 PM. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, school resource officers were prompted to take immediate action after the threat surfaced. This led to a swift decision to have students and staff hunker inside the school.
With tight-lipped determination, sheriff deputies commenced a primary sweep of the campus, finding no immediate signs of danger. Despite the lack of suspicious packages, the tension was palpable as students were guided to the upper field, distanced from the pillars of their daily learning. Collaborating agencies, including the San Diego County Sheriff's Office canines, CSU San Marcos Police, ATF, and Harbor Police, added their expertise to a more in-depth, secondary search of the school's premises.
It wasn't long before the wagging tails and keen noses of bomb detection dogs cleared the air of fear, cueing the all-clear for students to shuffle back to the familiarity of their classrooms. From there, a more familiar routine took hold as students were released back to their waiting parents, who were breathless with relief.
