Bostonians are in for quite the lively weekend with a series of events that will have participants lacing up their sneakers or enjoying the arts. The city's traffic advisory, issued earlier, details a number of road closures and parking restrictions designed to accommodate the bustling schedule. If you're planning to join the festivities or just need to navigate through the city, here's what you need to know.
Art enthusiasts are looking forward to the Beacon Hill Arts Walk scheduled for June 1, the event which, according to an advisory published on Boston.gov, will see West Cedar Street closed to through traffic and parking from 9:00 a.m. Meanwhile, over in Dorchester, the annual Dorchester Day Parade is also set for June 1, starting with a 5k at noon before the parade kicks off at 1:00 p.m., effectively closing Dorchester Avenue for the duration.
Fenway/Kenmore will play host to concerts at Fenway Park, featuring Shakira on May 29 and Jason Aldean with Brooks & Dunn the following night. To ensure public safety and manage the logistics of the events, streets around the park will have parking restrictions leading up to and during the concerts. Event-goers are encouraged by city officials to consider alternate means of transportation, steering clear of the potential parking predicament.
Runners will hit the pavement in West Roxbury for the Annual Corrib Classic 5K Road Race, which is also slated for June 1. The race, starting right at noon, will impact traffic across the scheduled route that wraps around Billings Field. As confirmed in the traffic advisory, there's a silver lining here for drivers: the event comes with no parking restrictions, with the roads along the course simply closed between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Due to multiple events and athletic activities occurring simultaneously, city officials are recommending that attendees walk, bike, or use public transit to reduce congestion. The MBTA advises purchasing a round-trip ticket in advance to streamline the return trip. Additionally, Bluebikes, the regional bike-share service, is available as a transportation option. Travelers should anticipate potential delays and plan accordingly.
