The Boston Police Department (BPD) has issued a community alert for the Mattapan and Hyde Park areas due to a recent increase in assaults and thefts targeting food delivery drivers. These drivers, working for both app-based and independent services, have experienced several incidents in the past month where they were approached, sometimes by individuals with weapons, and had their deliveries stolen.
In response, the Boston Police Department has released safety recommendations for drivers. These include staying alert, verifying suspicious addresses, sharing delivery routes or locations with others, avoiding carrying cash, and trusting personal instincts in potentially dangerous situations. The Boston Police Department also advises reporting any customers who insist on cash payments, as this can be a warning sign and falls outside most apps’ secure payment systems.
