Following a ShotSpotter alert on Tuesday night in Roxbury, Boston Police Department officers have made an arrest and recovered a firearm connected to the incident. The ShotSpotter system, which detects gunshots and immediately notifies police, directed officers to 305 Dudley Street after being activated around 9:38 p.m. According to the official Boston Police Department release, their search in the vicinity resulted in the discovery of ballistic evidence on Adams Street, and damage to a storefront, and an apartment at the opposite address.

District B-2 detectives processed the scene, gathered witness statements and retrieved video surveillance. The footage showed two suspects, both described as Black males, dressed in black attire, fleeing the area on a moped. This information, including details about the moped's unique headlight, was later key in the apprehension of a suspect. Maurise Tutt, 21, of Dorchester, was arrested near Cedar and Terrace Streets after a brief pursuit on foot.

Earlier in the evening, officers were informed of the activation and had been briefed to look out for the suspects on a blue moped with distinctive characteristics. It wasn't long before officers spotted an individual matching the description on a moped, leading to a chase that covered several streets in the area. Though the suspect tried to evade police, he was ultimately seen abandoning the vehicle and continuing his escape on foot. Officers managed to catch up with Tutt after observing him reach for his waistband and clutching it during the pursuit.

The pursuit resulted in the finding of a loaded firearm, an FNH USA Fredericksburg 9mm loaded with ammunition, along with a large-capacity magazine, near the location where the moped was discarded. Tutt, who subsequently attempted to harm an arresting officer by twisting their finger, faces multiple charges including unlawful firearm possession and assault and battery on a police officer, as reported by the Boston Police Department. He was also cited for motor vehicle violations including failure to stop and a vehicle lights violation.
