R&B singer Brian McKnight has filed a lawsuit against Jaguar Wright, alleging defamation due to comments she made regarding him and his ex-wife, Julie McKnight. According to a report from Phoenix New Times, the lawsuit stems from Wright's claims on social media, where she accused McKnight of verbal and domestic abuse towards Julie, as well as alleging that he engaged in violent behavior with sex workers. Wright has also claimed to be a cousin of Julie McKnight, a connection which Brian McKnight disputes.
In a detailed account by Blavity, it was reported that McKnight has denied the allegations, stating that he has seen no evidence to substantiate Wright's supposed familial ties to his ex-wife. McKnight's marriage to Julie spanned from 1990 to 2003, and the couple had three children together. Wright, however, has a notable history of making unsubstantiated claims against various figures in the music industry, which casts doubt on her allegations.
The severity of these accusations is not lost on those familiar with Wright's past actions, such as her controversial interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where she made unproven allegations against Beyoncé and Jay-Z. According to Blavity, as Wright told Morgan, "I have three victims right now who are willing to give testimonies about not only what Mr. Carter has done to them, but his wife as well." This resulted in Piers Morgan issuing an on-air apology after receiving a legal notice from the couple's lawyers, stating that the claims had no factual basis and were categorically false.
