Drivers and residents within the Plantation area should prepare for the start of substantial bridge rehabilitation efforts set to kick off soon on North Pine Island Road. According to a press release from the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD), the project, funded by the gas tax, is set to tackle structural issues that were spotlighted in the most recent bridge inspection report by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Construction is slated to begin on Tuesday, May 27, with an ambitious end date projected by December 2025—weather permitting and assuming no unexpected conditions arise. In an effort of minimize traffic disruptions, HBMD has crafted an inventive design and construction method. A significant portion of the work will occur on the bridge's underside, utilizing floating platforms on the canal, as per the Broward County news release.
For those concerned about daily travel, the majority of the construction phase won’t necessitate lane closures. However, improvements to guardrails and the replacement of expansion joints will require lane closures during off-peak hours for an estimated four-week stint, from 9 AM - 4 PM. Moreover, overnight construction for deck waterproofing and resurfacing is planned for one week, scheduled from 8 PM - 6 AM. Pedestrians and local traffic can be reassured that access to driveways and sidewalks will be maintained throughout the construction period, according to the same news release.
Those seeking more information about the project or who might wish to voice concerns can contact the HBMD at 954-357-6040. For more project-specific inquiries, Project Manager Stanley Bateman is available at 954-647-6490 or through email at [email protected]. Broward County extends its gratitude for the public's patience as the bridge undergoes its necessary transformation.
