In Buda, Texas, a new trail has weaved its way through the local landscape, inviting residents to step into the lush environs of Onion Creek. According to Hays County's announcement, the Onion Creek Trail, funded in part by the 2021 Buda Bonds project, is finally open to the public after first being proposed in Buda's 2021 Parks Master Plan. The trail, which officially opens on May 30, extends 1.5 miles adjacent to the Buda Amphitheater and City Park, with a paved path and a pedestrian bridge spanning the creek itself.

"The Onion Creek Trail is a meaningful addition to Buda’s growing trail system and a reflection of our commitment to enhancing connectivity, outdoor recreation and quality of life for our residents," Buda City Manager Micah Grau told Hays County. In partnership with Hays County and the Texas Water Development Board, the funded project surpasses the $1 million mark, acknowledging the importance of community partnerships in endeavors aiming to improve public recreation spaces.

The ribbon-cutting event set for the evening of May 30 will not only inaugurate the Onion Creek Trail but also the Garlic Creek Trail, highlighting the city's strides to expand its outdoor spaces. In a celebration entwined with the Buda Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff at Buda City Park, Mayor Lee Urbanovsky and Hays County Precinct 4 Commissioner Walt Smith are scheduled to deliver remarks.

"We are thrilled to cross this project finish line and continue growing the trail system in Buda and Central Texas," Commissioner Smith remarked, according to Hays County. The inaugural activities following the ribbon-cutting showcase the community's active lifestyle aspirations, featuring a trail bike ride led by Mayor Urbanovsky, and, a Bike Rodeo with Buda Police Department officers. The event promises to be an interactive occasion for attendees who are keen to explore the new outdoor amenity right away.

While the main construction is complete, minor touches will continue to be added over the following weeks. Despite these last refinements, the trail is currently accessible for all intended activities such as walking, jogging, and cycling along the scenic route of Onion Creek, contributing significantly to the area's recreational repertoire.
