A burglary suspect was apprehended with aerial surveillance in Contra Costa County, following a vehicle chase that ended in Walnut Creek. According to a social media post by the Contra Costa Sheriff, on May 15, deputies responded to a reported burglary on Evora Road in Bay Point. Their STARR3 helicopter located a white work van suspected in the incident, fleeing the scene.
The ensuing pursuit led deputies from Highway 4 to southbound Highway 242 and westbound on Highway 24. The suspect van attempted to elude officials in a maneuver driving down an on-ramp in the opposite direction. As safety is a top priority, the pursuit was immediately terminated by deputies when this occurred, yet STARR3 kept a watchful eye above.
Ultimately, the van was abandoned in Walnut Creek. With the assistance of Walnut Creek PD, a perimeter was set up, and the suspect was later apprehended without incident. Identified as 52-year-old David Barnett of Fremont, the individual now faces several charges, including burglary and grand and petty theft, along with outstanding felony arrest warrants.
As per the Sheriff's Office release, Barnett was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, where he is being held in place of a $462,500 bail.
