According to KUTV, the incident took place just before 6 p.m., one of the girls managed to reach the shore independently however the 8-year-old required help, a bystander near the vicinity dove into the water to retrieve the child and began life-saving measures on the shore they were later joined by another who assisted in this act of timely leverage against misfortune.

The spontaneous act by the two individuals was recognized by the local sheriff's office, which issued a public commendation for their valorous conduct, "The Tooele County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend sincere appreciation to the two individuals whose swift actions helped save this young girl’s life," as relayed by KUTV.
