The Canutillo Independent School District has just snagged a $20,000 grant courtesy of Pilot Company, the same folks known for fueling our vehicles, are now looking to fuel young minds in STEM education. The funding, coming as part of the New Horizons campaign, is tied to the opening of the new One9 Travel Center in Vinton. Students between third and fifth grade at Canutillo ISD will be the beneficiaries of new LEGO SPIKE kits, aiming to enhance their daily enrichment in school with a more hands-on approach to learning.
This initiative is slated to bolster skills across various essential areas such as problem solving, teamwork, and even computer coding. Canutillo ISD's Superintendent, Dr. Pedro Galaviz, emphasized the value of the partnership with Pilot Company, saying, "This generous investment from Pilot Company allows us to continue building innovative learning environments that inspire curiosity and prepare our students for future success," according to Canutillo ISD. The district is shooting to equip its learners with the necessary tools to navigate and succeed in a digital, future-oriented workforce.
STEM education has increasingly become a focal point for districts looking to ensure students are not only tech-savvy but also possess a robust foundation in critical thinking. With investments such as the one from Pilot Company, it's evident that the impetus to engage students in higher-quality, STEM-related lessons is gaining the financial backing necessary to make a tangible impact.
The broader community is also set to feel the ripple effects of this initiative. The new One9 Travel Center is expected to contribute to the economic development in Vinton, a village already experiencing significant growth. Shannon Stone, director of store modernization at Pilot, conveyed excitement about the new facility and its array of services, stating, "We are excited to welcome the Vinton community to our new travel center," as per Canutillo ISD. It appears to be more than just a venue to refuel, Pilot’s investment also signals their commitment to be an integral part of the community’s daily rhythm..
