To ensure that no child goes hungry during the summer months, the Canutillo Independent School District is stepping up to provide free breakfast and lunch to individuals 18 years old and under. This initiative, part of the Seamless Summer Option federal program, is designed to bridge the nutritional gap that often widens when school sessions conclude. According to Canutillo ISD, no enrollment in the district nor any fees are required to take advantage of this program.
The meal service is poised to operate without discrimination, providing the same meals to all children, 'regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), age or disability,' as the district's statement highlights, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who come to dine. Breakfast and lunch will be available at several convenient locations throughout the district, including Canutillo High School and Northwest Early College High School, both of which are located on S. Desert Boulevard and will serve meals from June 2-27, with breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 AM and lunch from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.
Additional sites like Canutillo Middle, Alderete Middle, Canutillo Elementary, Davenport Elementary, and Garcia Elementary Schools will also participate in the summer meal program albeit some with shorter durations extending from June 2-5 for the middle schools, and until June 13 for the elementary schools, reflecting the same meal times already specified for bolstering community nourishment efforts.
