
A Cape Cod police officer was injured in a rollover crash while responding to a call in Sandwich, officials reported. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Cotuit Road and Quaker Meeting House Road. According to NBC Boston, the officer was traveling to a reported drug overdose with lights and sirens activated when their cruiser was struck and overturned.
Following the collision, the Sandwich Police Department stated the injured officer was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and promptly transported to Cape Cod Hospital. The nature of the officer’s injuries remains undisclosed, while the other vehicle’s driver was reported unharmed. As of now, authorities have not determined if charges will be pressed against them.
Crash scene footage revealed the police cruiser lying on its side, spurring an ongoing investigation by local police, with assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. Police have suggested that the public keep clear of the area during the investigation process, as stated by Boston 25 News.
