As the Chicago Bears deliberate on the location of their new stadium, the team's current preference leans towards Arlington Heights, per the Chicago Mayor's Office. In a recent conversation that Mayor Brandon Johnson had with the team's executive leadership, it was communicated that the northwest suburb spot is now at the top of their list, as Fox 32 Chicago reported.
In 2023, the Bears acquired the Arlington Park property for $197.2 million, and since then, local officials have been working on getting the site ready, including changes in zoning to permit sports betting and establishing tax agreements. Despite previously considering a new site along the Chicago lakefront, the Bears are now making significant strides in discussions with Arlington Heights, as per CBS Chicago.
Even though the Bears appear to be set on Arlington Heights, the City of Chicago is keeping the conversation open for the team's return. Mayor Johnson has signaled a willingness to continue discussions, with the spoken intent being to retain the Bears within city limits. According to Fox 32 Chicago, the mayor’s office emphasized, "the door remains open" for negotiations despite Springfield's financial climate not being conducive to the endeavors at present.
