Chicagoans may be looking forward to a relatively tranquil Memorial Day weekend as the weather shifts towards less precipitation and slightly warmer temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, today will see a "30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 9am," with skies clearing somewhat in the afternoon, although temperatures will hover near 54 degrees, which is notably cooler than typical late May norms.
With the wind coming out of the north northeast at 10 to 15 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph, it seems that the chill won't be letting go easily of the city. The tonight forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with lower temperatures dropping around 45 degrees. The Memorial Day weekend itself promises "mostly sunny" conditions, particularly on Friday with a high nearing 58 and on Saturday, where the mercury might rise to 62 degrees, as per the National Weather Service.
Reinforcing the outlook for a drier weekend, FOX 32 Chicago reports that "the start of the Memorial Day weekend will feature brighter skies tomorrow and that should enable high temperatures to reach the low 60s." With this improvement in weather, locals may only have to contend with the persistent coolness that's close to the lake.
Meanwhile, the outlook for Memorial Day itself carries a slight uncertainty with regards to precipitation. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the chance of rain on Memorial Day "while not zero, does look less to me now." Residents, while hopeful for dry conditions, may wish to prepare for the possibility of spring showers. Highs for the holiday are projected to fall just short of 70 degrees, with temperatures expected to finally hit that mark as the week progresses into Tuesday.
