
A man was taken into custody by the Chicago Police Department after firing a gun near a downtown sidewalk and entering a restricted transit area. Rayvon Savary, a 24-year-old from the 8500 block of S. Morgan St., faces a slew of charges stemming from the incident that took place on Monday.
According to a Chicago Police Department news release, Savary has been charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a second felony count for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/vehicle/loaded/no FCCA, and has received citations for trespassing on and obstructing access to Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) property, as well as possessing a weapon on CTA grounds.
The arrest occurred on Monday morning, just before 9:11 a.m., when Savary was apprehended in the 100 block of N. State St., Chicago. The police identified Savary as the man who had entered a restricted CTA area less than an hour earlier and fired shots at two individuals – a 30-year-old male and a 48-year-old male, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the 1st District, which encompasses the locale of the charged activity.
Savary's detention hearing is scheduled today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The Chicago Police Department has not disclosed any further details about the motivation for the shooting or the circumstances leading up to Savary's entry into the prohibited area.
