The Chicago Police Department has issued a business alert for commercial burglaries and property damage occurring within the Pilsen neighborhood's 12th District, specifically Beat 1233. Local businesses have encountered a series of unfortunate break-ins where perpetrators shatter glass or pry open doors to breach establishments and make off with cash from registers, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
Incidents occurred overnight on April 27 and 28 along the 1200 and 1300 blocks of West 18th Street. Police are looking for a male suspect, medium brown complexion, about 5’10” to 6’0” tall, last seen wearing a black face mask, a hoodie with "Relax Lii" on the back, and black shoes. CPD urges residents and business owners to stay alert, keep areas lit, and report suspicious activity.
The CPD further advises local businesses to maintain secure boundaries by keeping doors and windows locked and to quickly repair any security breaches, such as broken windows or locks. Employers with video surveillance are urged to not only retain footage of any incidents but also provide copies to detectives for the investigation. "If you are a victim, do not touch anything. Call police immediately," the CPD guideline advises, stressing the importance of preserving the scene of the crime for forensic analysis.
Witnesses or bystanders who might have seen the incidents are encouraged to share any details they have with police, emphasizing the potential significance of even what might seem to be minor observations. The CPD has stressed the importance of community engagement, with the assertion that "Be aware of this crime and notify nearby businesses" could play a pivotal role in both the prevention and solving of these crimes.
