A routine traffic stop in Chicopee has led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man on multiple narcotics charges, according to a social media post from the Chicopee Police Department. Last night, officers pulled over a vehicle with a suspected expired registration at the intersection of Chicopee St and Meadow St.
During the stop, the driver, identified by authorities as Antonio Colon Ortiz, reportedly exhibited suspicious behavior that prompted a further inspection. Police claim Ortiz appeared to be stashing something under the seat as an officer approached the car. After additional units arrived and safety checks were conducted, it was confirmed that Ortiz's vehicle was unregistered and uninsured.
Officers' search of the vehicle uncovered a glass pipe with evidence of use and multiple bags containing substances believed to be cocaine and heroin, along with cash and digital scales. According to the Chicopee Police, the drug-related paraphernalia was discovered in various hidden compartments throughout the vehicle.
The Chicopee Police Department states that Ortiz faces charges, including Possess to Distribute Class B and Class A Drugs, Trafficking in 36 grams or more of Cocaine, and motor vehicle violations.
