Chillicothe drivers, brace yourselves for a rerouting challenge as Polk Street at U.S. Route 65 is set to close for a resurfacing project starting next Monday. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has teamed up with Capital Paving and Construction, LLC for a spruce-up of U.S. Route 65, and this means some disruptions are on the horizon.
According to a recent announcement by MoDOT, the stretch from north of Route 190 to U.S. Route 36 is getting some much-needed TLC, but it comes at the cost of convenience. The closure of Polk Street west of Route 65 will be in full effect, round the clock from Monday until May 26. And yep, that means drivers will have to find an alternative path during this period.
But it's not just Polk Street that will see the impact of these improvements. Bryan Street, Waples Street, Curtis Street, and Ryan Lane—all to the west of Route 65—are on the docket for short-term closures as the project moves forward. The reminders come with a familiar beat: planning ahead is key as schedules can flip with the whims of weather conditions.
For those out there navigating these temporary changes, MoDOT has a few words of advice: "always buckling up, keeping your phones down, slowing down and moving over in work zones." Sure, detours are a drag, and construction can fray the nerves, but safety, so they say, should never take a back seat. Regardless, of your destination or the length of your journey.
