The City of Citrus Heights is starting the Sunrise Boulevard Resurfacing Project this week. The project includes resurfacing Sunrise Boulevard from Greenback Lane to Madison Avenue, and Macy Plaza Drive from Sunrise Boulevard to Birdcage Street, according to the City of Citrus Heights.

The City of Citrus Heights is implementing a multi-layer pavement treatment that includes Type III slurry for leveling, rubberized chip seal for strength, and Type II micro-surfacing slurry as a final layer. While the surface may appear uneven initially, it is expected to smooth out as traffic is applied. The approach is designed to be a cost-effective way to extend the lifespan of the pavement. Additionally, the project will improve pedestrian safety with the addition of more visible crosswalks and updated lane markings.

Road work on Sunrise Boulevard began on Monday with night shifts from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Starting May 19, daytime work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while most work will continue at night. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July. Drivers should expect temporary speed limits and loose gravel. The work is part of the city's Three-Year Pavement Preservation Plan.
