The City of Portland is taking a stand against gun violence with the recent announcement of the 2025 Safer Portland Grant. This initiative, overseen by the Office of Violence Prevention, has opened its doors for application submissions, aiming to empower community-based efforts to quell the unnerving uptick in gun-related incidents. Interested organizations had until Friday at 5:00 p.m. to throw their hat in the ring for a chance to secure funding designed to foster safer neighborhoods.
Targeting areas besieged by the repercussions of gun violence, such as Cully, Hazelwood, Eliot, and Powellhurst-Gilbert, the grant extends its reach citywide, urging entities from all corners of Portland to participate.
As posted on the city's official Facebook page, the grant backs a plethora of programs, including but not limited to wraparound services, violence prevention through social activities, workforce development, and economic mobility. This diversified approach acknowledges the multifaceted nature of violence, where prevention can be as nurturing as a community cookout or as strategic as an employment training program designed to pave pathways to prosperity.
