In a tragic incident on April 26, Columbia County, Georgia Sheriff's Office lost one of their own, Deputy Brandon Sikes, a seven-year veteran and a U.S. Army veteran. Deputy Sikes was shot and killed while serving a domestic violence injunction alongside other deputies.
A Facebook post from the Sevierville Police Department reported the details of the incident, stating that during the enforcement of the injunction at a traffic stop, a man opened fire with an AR-style pistol, fatally wounding Deputy Sikes and seriously injuring another officer.
The shootout that ensued witnessed acts of bravery as one deputy risked his life to pull both wounded comrades to safety, subsequently attempting life-saving measures despite the danger and a second deputy was shot in the face, his condition remains serious, following the incident. The community grieves for Deputy Sikes, who leaves behind a daughter and a wife who is also part of the Sheriff's Office. The Sevierville Police Department asks for thoughts and prayers for Deputy Sikes' family, the wounded deputy and the broader law enforcement family.
