The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is actively investigating an incident at the California Medical Facility (CMF) in which a peace officer was allegedly the target of an attempted homicide by an incarcerated individual. The event transpired yesterday, when Dannunzio Patron, a person serving time at CMF, is said to have attacked a correctional officer using an improvised weapon during a cell extraction process, according to a press release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Details obtained by the CDCR reveal that the officer sustained lacerations to his left forearm as a result of the altercation. Moreover, two staff members responding to the incident experienced knee pain. The affronted officer and the two employees were promptly transported to an outside medical facility to receive necessary medical attention. In the wake of the confrontation, Patron was moved to another institution where he will be held in restricted housing pending further action.
The incident has not only prompted an internal probe but also caught the attention of the Solano District Attorney’s Office, which will consider the possibility of pressing felony charges against Patron. The CDCR's statement elucidates that Patron, aged 38, was last admitted to CMF from Fresno County on December 30, 2024, under a sentence of eight years for assault likely to produce great bodily injury, marked as a second strike offense.
