A Cumberland Gap man has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide following a fatal shooting that occurred yesterday. According to a statement from the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at a home located in the 100 block of Old Pearman Road in the Cumberland Gap area. Upon arrival, they discovered Mark Steven Laws, 62, of Harrogate, deceased from gunshot wounds, WVLT reported.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Maxwell Alan Madon from Cumberland Gap, was charged with criminal homicide in connection to Laws' death, the sheriff's office announced. A social media post, confirmed by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, also narrated the events of the incident, noting the address as 117 Old Pearman Road and specified that Laws died at the scene, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.
Further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately made available. However, the incident has sent ripples through the small community where such violent crimes are relatively rare.
