The Denver Police Department is dealing with internal scrutiny following the arrest of one of its own. Officer Brandon Greulich, who has been with the department since 2022, was arrested last night on multiple allegations of domestic violence. These charges included third-degree assault, false imprisonment, harassment, and child abuse, according to the Denver Police Department.
The incident, having occurred in Douglas County, is now under the purview of their Sheriff's Office. Being misdemeanors, the offenses have not barred Greulich from his DPD role entirely. Instead, as the statement divulged, Greulich has been placed on an off-line assignment while the wheels of justice churn their slow course through his case. This move sits awkwardly with the notion of immediate accountability, often espoused by those with the badge.
The administrative side of this investigation awaits the conclusion of the criminal case. As mentioned in the department's statement, the Denver Department of Safety and the Office of the Independent Monitor, known for civilian oversight, will be involved in the Denver Police Department's review. DPD is tight-lipped about the case details, citing the ongoing investigation by an outside agency.
