Last Wednesday evening, a high-speed car chase culminated in a stolen truck ramming into a structure at Centennial Airport, with Douglas County Sheriff's deputies apprehending three individuals following the wild pursuit, as reported by KDVR. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the incident began with a FLOCK camera detection of the stolen vehicle at around 9:45 p.m.
The chase started when the truck was spotted along northbound Interstate 25 near Castle Pines Parkway, and despite efforts by the deputies to conduct a traffic stop, the driver accelerated away leading them on a chase along E-470 then east before exiting at Peoria Street and continuing to collide with the airport building, as per Denver7. The driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle, which abruptly ended the pursuit as the truck struck a building employed as a hangar and pilot's lounge. Fortunately, the crash did not disrupt the airport's operations.
The outcome of the event led to the driver, a resident of Denver, being charged with motor vehicle theft, eluding law enforcement, and reckless driving, meanwhile, another passenger was apprehended on different outstanding warrants, and a third was issued a court summons for drug paraphernalia possession, as detailed by 9News. An Arapahoe County building inspector has been tasked with appraising the extent of the damage done to the airport property as a result of the collision.
While the Douglas County Sheriff's deputies were in pursuit of the stolen truck the incident prompted an extensive examination, with the airport activity largely remaining unaffected in the aftermath the airport has remained open, ensuring that this disconcerting violation of public safety and property failed to hinder the day-to-day functionality of Centennial Airport, as noted by KDVR.
