Denver Police were led to a shooting suspect earlier this month with the aid of ShotSpotter technology, HALO cameras, and Flock's automated license plate reading system. According to Denver Police Department, it was detailed how the incident that occurred on May 4 was approached by officials and eventually led to an arrest.
The events unfolded around 8:59 PM near 19th Street and Market Street when police received a ShotSpotter alert. Officers arrived to find three individuals with gunshot injuries: an adult female and two adult males. A fourth victim, an adult male, was later self-transported to the hospital. Before the gunfire, there had been a physical confrontation between two groups. The suspect, involved in the altercation, was caught on HALO video footage and later identified as 25-year-old Carlos Lujan through Flock system's license plate recognition.
Lujan was connected to the vehicle seen fleeing the scene, and a subsequent investigation confirmed his role in the incident. On Friday, Lujan was arrested and is currently held for investigation of four counts of attempted first-degree murder. "Investigators arrested Lujan on Friday, May 9, 2025, and he is being held for investigation of four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder," as per the Denver Police Department in a social media post. Fortunately, all of the victims are expected to survive their injuries.
