In a brazen act of theft, three men have been arrested and one remains on the loose after more than 200 pounds of mail were stolen from a Doral community. The Doral Police Department apprehended the trio following a spree of unauthorized purchases, including electronics, made with a stolen credit card. According to WSVN, 34-year-old Ivey Marquis Allen, 19-year-old Guston Malheur, and 23-year-old Latron Steadman are now facing charges, while the search continues for the fourth suspect, 44-year-old Antwan McClain.
Surveillance video reviewed by authorities clearly depicted the suspects as they used a stolen master key to illegally access mailboxes. The incident, which occurred just before the end of tax season, saw the thieves specifically target confidential information, including personal and financial documents. In a statement obtained by NBC Miami, a resident named Francisco shared the personal impact, saying, "They took my mom's supplements, her little vitamins. But my neighbors on the other hand, they got their bank statements, they got their tax returns, they took all their checks and I heard they got a little shopping spree after."
The aftermath of the theft quickly unfolded when one of the victims noticed fraudulent transactions on her newly issued credit card, which was supposed to arrive via mail. NBC Miami reports that surveillance footage from a Best Buy store captured two of the men making high-ticket purchases with the stolen card, including a $1299 iPad Pro and a $499 PlayStation 5. A third individual was also seen buying another PlayStation after being handed the card by his accomplices.
Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez has stressed the severity of the crime, highlighting that the suspects were in possession of master keys usually reserved for Postal Service use, raising concerns about additional breaches of security. Lopez told WSVN, "They did utilize keys that are master keys, specifically designed for the Postal Service, so we're working with the postal police as well, to see how these individuals were able to obtain these keys." Following a traffic stop enabled by license plate readers, the suspects' vehicle was searched, leading to the arrest of the three men on various charges, including burglary and fraudulent use of identification.
As the investigation continues, authorities are warning that this could be part of a larger issue affecting residents beyond the Doral community. The police have encouraged anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of Antwan McClain to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
