Morning commuters in Mountain View may have encountered unexpected delays due to a solo vehicle accident at the intersection of Evelyn Avenue and Kittyhawk Way yesterday. According to the City of Mountain View, the collision occurred around 5:20 AM, prompting a swift response from local authorities.
When Mountain View Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle that had collided with a tree. A passenger remained trapped inside, their foot pinned in the front seat area, requiring assistance to be freed. The City of Mountain View Fire Department performed the extrication. After the rescue, the passenger was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Interestingly, the vehicle's owner was found outside the car when police arrived. They claimed that the person behind the wheel at the time of the crash was an acquaintance who had fled the scene on foot post-collision. The driver, described only as wearing all-black clothing, remains unidentified and at large.
Officers' exhaustive area search did not locate the elusive driver. The Mountain View Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to call the department at 650-903-6344 and aid in the ongoing investigation.
