Early Monday marked a grim start to the week in Chicago with separate traffic incidents resulting in numerous injuries and property damage. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a car crash at around 3 a.m. in Lincoln Square left three people injured, with one woman in critical condition.

The accident occurred when a 56-year-old man driving a Buick LaCrosse lost control and collided with a pole. An ambulance rushed him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition. A female passenger, whose age was not disclosed, suffered head and chest injuries and is currently critical. Another passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair condition. The Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation.

Simultaneously, another incident took a toll on a historic establishment when a vehicle smashed into an American Legion building in Garfield Ridge. Fox 32 Chicago reports that the accident involved a 22-year-old female driver whose Ford Focus veered off course in an attempt to avoid two individuals on electric scooters.

The driver struck the American Legion building located at the 6900 block of West Archer Avenue. Fortunately, she sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The extent of the damage to a building is still under assessment, and no citations were issued in relation to the crash as of Monday morning. In both instances, no other injuries were reported outside of those directly involved.
