A man was arrested yesterday in the Roxbury neighborhood on suspicion of breaking and entering. Larmount Jones, 39, of East Boston, was taken into custody after police responded to a report of a trespasser at 144 Dudley Street in Nubian Square.

According to the Boston Police Department, a security guard told officers that the apartment in question was supposed to be vacant but that sounds were coming from inside. Police found that the apartment door lock had been tampered with and replaced.

When officers attempted to speak with Jones, he left the apartment and fled. A foot chase followed, and officers apprehended him near 2360 Washington Street. Police say Jones resisted arrest and an altercation occurred before he was subdued with the help of additional officers. A backpack believed to belong to Jones contained a screwdriver and wire cutters, which police suspect were used in the break-in.

Jones is facing multiple charges, including Breaking and Entering for Misdemeanor, Possession of Burglarious Instrument, Trespass, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.

He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. Further details about the arraignment were not immediately available.
