In the dead of night, a burglary attempt was foiled in El Paso County when a vigilant homeowner took action. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Wednesday and began unfolding around 1:20 AM. The homeowner, stirred by the sound of an intruder, reached out to 9-1-1 after a security alarm indicated someone had infiltrated the garage on Pony Club Lane. Dispatchers overheard the homeowner confronting the suspect on the line, which soon led to law enforcement intervention.
Deputies arrived at a suspenseful scene, finding the homeowner with a gun pointed at the suspect outside the residence. With officers nearing, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Brody Burnett, decided to make a run for it, triggering a foot chase. Caught soon after, Burnett's attempt to escape law enforcement proved futile.
Burnett is now facing several charges, including Second Degree Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools. Further compounding his legal troubles, Burnett was found carrying a financial transaction device unlawfully, paired with the illicit substances fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. His existing record, already tarnished by active warrants for a failure to appear for both a felony and a misdemeanor case, signifies a history with the law. The El Paso County Jail now houses Burnett, where he's held on a $10,000 bond for his recent shenanigans and without bond for the previous warrants.
