
The track is set for El Paso ISD athletes as they gear up to showcase their skills at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin this weekend. Burges, Chapin, El Paso, and Franklin High Schools are all sending contenders to the two-day event, aiming to leave their mark among Texas's high school elite. According to El Paso ISD, these young athletes will battle it out at Myers Track Stadium in events that test their speed, endurance, and power.
Among the highlights, Franklin High School's boys track team enters the championships on a historic note, being acknowledged as the first-ever 6A regional champions from their district. Their success continues to ripple through El Paso ISD, acting as a beacon of inspiration. "Their milestone victory has energized the entire El Paso ISD community and put a well-deserved spotlight on the team’s incredible determination, teamwork, and talent," as per El Paso ISD. Adding to their accomplishments, the Cougars have broken city records this season in the 4x100m and 4x200m relays, boosting their already notable reputation.
The schedule for the state meet includes various competitions over May 2-3, with El Paso High School taking part in the 5A Boys 3200 Meter Run and 1600 Meter Run. Representing Burges High School, athletes will compete in the 5A Boys 800 Meter Run. Chapin High School aims to triumph in the 5A Girls 4 x 200 Relay, while Franklin High School has sights on the 6A Boys 4 x 100 Relay, across two days of fierce competition.
These student-athletes have committed to rigorous training, juggling the demands of both academics and competitive sport.
