The El Paso Independent School District's (EPISD) Council of PTAs has notably increased its support for graduating seniors, awarding a collective sum of $7,000 in scholarships this year, as reported by El Paso ISD. Moving beyond its traditional approach of presenting two annual scholarships of $500 each, the Council has made a significant leap by offering $1,000 to each of seven students representing schools with active Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) chapters.

In what marks a considerable expansion of the scholarship program, the EPISD Council of PTAs ensured that one student from each participating high school benefited from the increased scholarship amount, which not only doubled the previous sum but also widened its beneficiary base throughout the district. Lauren Steinmann, President of the El Paso ISD Council of PTAs, expressed, “This is about empowering our students and showing them that their hard work is seen and valued” and “We’re proud to help open doors for these exceptional students as they take the next step toward their future,” as per El Paso ISD.

The fortunate recipients hail from diverse campuses within the district, including Bowie High School’s Joe Rodriguez, Burges High School’s Alyssa Pham Almaguer, Maximilian Sandhu from Coronado High School, Galilea Velasco of El Paso High School, Matthew Bryan Herrera at Franklin High School, Valeria Salazar-Bueno of Jefferson Silva Health Magnet, and Cristian Quiroz representing Transmountain Early College High School (TMECHS). They were given a ceremonious nod of recognition at the Council's Officer Installation and Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 21, where, aside from being lauded for their academic prowess, they were formally presented with their respective scholarship awards.
