The latest from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) might affect your evening commute if you're heading through Elmwood. The DOTD has launched a road improvement initiative for a segment of LA 3152/S. Clearview Pkwy. This $4.9 million project, which spans a 1.7-mile section between US 61/Airline Hwy. and US 90/Huey P. Long Bridge, began its operations recently, the DOTD outlined.
With a scope that includes asphalt and concrete patching, resurfacing, as well as sidewalk and handicapped curb ramp construction, drivers navigating the corridor should prepare for a change in traffic patterns. Indicative of the project's intent to disrupt as little as possible, work is set for Sunday through Thursday nights. According to the DOTD, additional access to the Elmwood Shopping Center will be facilitated by adding a left-turn lane at the Village East St. intersection.
For those who regularly traverse this area, expect single lane closures scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights and extended closures on weekends. On the approach to the weekend, work will continue with lanes starting to shutter at 8:30 p.m. and reopening at 8 a.m. from Friday to Saturday. Sanctioned two-lane closures aren't slated to begin until after the 9:30 p.m. mark, DOTD has specified.
Emergency vehicles, though granted access during these times, might hit snags in their response times, a reminder perhaps that the flow of a city's veins, the roads it depends upon, doesn't pulse at the will of any single traveler. DOTD has pledged completion in the spring of next year, and in the meantime, advises drivers to anticipate delays and consider padding their travel times.
As DOTD underscores the importance of safety on the work site, they're asking the public to exercise caution and to keep alert for the presence of crews and their equipment. For regular updates on this and other local infrastructure projects or road and lane closures, the public can sign up for MyDOTD or consult the 511 Traveler Information Service.
