Get ready to swap screen time for green time at Bays Mountain Park’s annual “Kids at Bays Day.” Taking place on May 17, this event is shaping up to be a much-anticipated day of outdoor adventures for children and families. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., visitors can indulge in activities that are meant to both educate and entertain, from animal encounters to stargazing wonders.
In keeping with the event’s well-crafted lineup, hands-on activities are set to include fishing, gardening, and even mountain bike safety - so don’t forget to bring your own gear. According to KingsportTN.gov, park manager Megan Krager voiced her support for the day’s aims, stating "Kids at Bays Day is a great opportunity to get your children out of the house, away from their devices and to reconnect with nature.” The park promises to offer different programs to cater to various interests.
A paid entrance fee of $7 grants access to all events, which doesn't fail to include a free educational program about local wildlife, and even a yoga session tailored for kids on the observatory lawn. The evening will close with a unique opportunity - a night time spectacle at the observatory from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., providing a glimpse of the celestial bodies that dance above us.
This event isn't just about free programs; additional experiences like barge rides and planetarium shows are available for $6 per person. Sessions for these paid features are scheduled throughout the day, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate. Tickets for these experiences are on sale, and can be easily purchased online or at the park’s gift shop.
The Bays Mountain Park Association, which sponsors the "Kids at Bays Day," works to ensure that each year's event is both educational and engaging.
