The flames, as reported by NBC Miami, started on the patio, and rapidly engulfed an adjacent structure and car sitting in the backyard. Despite the efforts of firefighters who responded to the vicinity of Southwest 134th Avenue, and 78th Street, the family's dog did not survive.
