A tragic series of events unfolded on a Reading roadway last Friday night, according to the local police department. In a severe multi-vehicle accident, at least one person died, and others were injured. The Reading Police Department’s announcement on their Facebook page detailed a four-car collision at the intersection of Main and Hopkins Streets along Route 28.

Emergency services responded at 10:06 p.m. on May 2 after nearly a dozen 911 calls came in at once. Early reports say a 2006 gray Volvo XC70 was speeding south on Main Street and ran a red light. It then crashed into the driver's side of a 2014 green Ford Fusion, which was heading east on Hopkins Street, as reported by the Reading Police Department.

The crash sent the Ford into oncoming traffic, where it hit a 2014 gray Audi Q7. The Volvo then also crashed into a 2018 gray Toyota RAV4. According to the Reading Police Department's social media post, the driver of the Ford died at the scene. The driver of the Volvo and a passenger in the RAV4 were taken to the hospital.

The crash is still under investigation by the Reading Police Department, with help from the Massachusetts State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. Anyone with information is asked to call the Reading Police Department at 781-944-1212.
