Early Friday morning, a tragic accident occurred on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford, resulting in one fatality and leaving another individual with serious injuries. Massachusetts State Police reported to Boston 25 News that a single-vehicle crash happened on the northbound side of the highway, where a car struck a guardrail and rolled over near a rest area shortly before 3:30 a.m.
The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, identified by 7NEWS as the driver's sister, was rushed to Lowell Hospital with serious injuries. Following the incident, all northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for approximately three hours to allow for evidence collection and investigation into the cause of the accident.
This latest accident comes on the heels of a similar incident that occurred on Thursday, in which both a man and a woman perished in another single-vehicle accident on the same highway in Middleboro. State police are actively investigating both crashes, trying to determine the factors that contributed to these events.
