The Great Lawn at City Center Park will be closed for the next month and a half. The City has announced a closure starting today, embarking on a six-week refurbishment to give some TLC to the hard-worn grass and ground underneath. "The Great Lawn gets a lot of use throughout the year, which is what we want," Deputy Public Services Director Cajen Rhodes explained. “We are hoping this refurbishment process will improve soil and ground cover conditions, so that this popular amenity will be more durable and be even more useful in the months and years to come,” as noted by the City of Fayetteville.
In addition to the Great Lawn, parts of the playground at City Center Park are closed for structural repairs. However, work is behind schedule, and no end date has been provided. Contractors and city staff are still addressing the details, so residents are encouraged to stay tuned to the City’s channels for updates. While the Great Lawn and swings are closed, the hillside slides, tot lot playground, dog park, and other facilities remain open. The spray pad is also back, open on weekends in May and more frequently during the summer, providing a cool spot for visitors.
For details on closures or to plan a visit around construction, check the City's website. The spray pad will be open on Memorial Day and Labor Day, offering a cool spot on hot days. City Center Park remains a great place to enjoy outdoor activities, with a dog park, picnic shelters, and more, while the Great Lawn undergoes maintenance.
