Former "Love After Lockup" reality TV star Dylan Smith has been handed his sentence in a Chicago mail theft case. Smith, 35, was involved in a burglary that saw him illegally accessing a condominium's mail using a U.S. Postal Service key, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago. He has been sentenced to 244 days in jail—time he has already served—alongside two years of supervised release.
The investigation that led to Smith's arrest was spearheaded by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) in collaboration with the Chicago Police Department. A burglary that involved the theft of mail at a local condo building in May of 2024 was the catalyst for an investigation, culminating in Smith's arrest on June 4 of the following year. "The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is dedicated to defending the nation’s mail system from criminal activity," Ruth M. Mendonça, Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division of USPIS, stated in a commentary obtained by WGN TV.
Details revealed during the course of the investigation divulged that Smith had pled guilty in Cook County Criminal Court to a count of felony burglary. Mendonça praised the joint efforts of local law enforcement, emphasizing the USPIS's role in "preserving the integrity of the U.S. Mail, and protecting United States Postal Service employees and customers," WGN TV noted.
Victims of mail theft or those who suspect they've become targets of similar crimes are advised to reach out to the Postal Inspection Service. The USPIS can be contacted via their hotline at 1-877-876-2455 or through their website, as per WGN TV.
