Residents in parts of Fort Lauderdale should brace themselves for a slight change in their tap water's appearance next week. According to the City of Fort Lauderdale's official announcement, maintenance work is scheduled at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club wellfield from June 2 through June 8. The maintenance work will lead to the temporary shutdown of the Peele-Dixie Water Treatment Plant, which provides water to neighborhoods situated south of Broward Boulevard.
During the temporary shutdown, the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant will step in to supply water. Residents might notice their water suddenly display a slight change in color, although the City assures the safety and standards of the water. "Please be assured that the water is safe and meets all primary drinking water standards," the City statement read. The color variance is attributed to the different treatment processes—Fiveash uses lime softening, whereas Peele-Dixie employs advanced reverse osmosis.
The City has been proactive in addressing potential queries from the community. They invite any neighbors with questions or concerns to reach out to the City's Customer Service Center. "Neighbors with questions may contact the City's Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000," was the directive provided by the City of Fort Lauderdale.
