
A fatal crash in Franklin, Massachusetts, on Saturday night resulted in the death of a young girl and serious injuries to members of her family. The collision occurred around 6:22 p.m. on Grove Street and involved the family’s vehicle and a pickup truck, according to NBC Boston.
The driver of the pickup, 21-year-old James N. Blanchard, was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence (OUI), and negligent operation. CBS News Boston reports that Blanchard is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Wrentham District Court on tomorrow.
The girl's mother and brother remain hospitalized, while her father has been released. The victims' names have not been released.
Franklin police responded to the crash and found several people injured and trapped in the vehicles. According to NBC Boston, three individuals were transported to local hospitals—two by ambulance and one by helicopter.
On the same night, a separate fatal incident occurred on Cape Cod. A 25-year-old man from Florida was found with fatal injuries in a suspected hit-and-run. Police are searching for a pickup truck or SUV with front-end damage and are asking anyone with information to contact authorities, as reported by CBS News Boston.
