
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of 21-year-old Jykerrion Maurice Oliver, in an incident that unfolded in Telfair County. Initial reports, as per a GBI release, say that on April 18, deputies from the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene of a shooting shortly after 5 p.m., where they found Oliver dead.
Details around the events leading to the shooting remain thin, but the person who fired the shots has claimed it was in self-defense. At this stage, the ongoing investigation has resulted in no charges. The GBI is calling for anyone with insights or knowledge relevant to the case to step forward and offers several ways to submit tips anonymously including by phone, online, or using a dedicated mobile app.
Official proceedings will continue as investigations advance. Once complete, the findings will move to the Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. At this point, key decisions about potential legal action will materialize. The Telfair County Sheriff's Office has joined forces with GBI Agents to sift through the information and get to the bottom of Oliver's death.
