GEICO, recognized as a major player in the auto insurance sector and a subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, is broadening its reach with new offices in Chicago and Beachwood, Ohio. The Chicago location at the Merchandise Mart will accommodate more than 100 employees across various corporate roles, including communications, finance, and marketing, as reported by Chicago Sun-Times. Opening its doors on Wednesday, this site offers Geico a prime spot in a building that is no stranger to big names in tech and consumer goods.
Having once operated from a temporary setup in the West Loop, GEICO's selection of the Merchandise Mart signals not just a relocation, but a strategic expansion. According to Karyn Stetz, GEICO's chief people officer, "Chicago’s vibrant business community and talented workforce make it an ideal location for our new corporate hub," a statement obtained by Chicago Sun-Times. The Chicago office joins an expanding roster, following recently announced expansions in Tampa and Richardson.
Meanwhile, in Beachwood, a suburb of Cleveland, GEICO has opened a new "corporate hub" featuring over 50 employees. Nestled in the Landmark Center, this 6,300-square-foot space will bolster support for business operations across all areas of GEICO's nationwide enterprise. The move into Ohio underscores the company's methodical expansion in strategic locations, as they continue to harness regional talents and grow their customer base.
As expressed by Stetz, "Cleveland’s strategic location and skilled workforce make it an excellent choice for our expansion," which echoes a similar sentiment shared about the Chicago hub. The news follows the recent announcement by WKYC reflecting GEICO's strategy to tap into local expertise. The office is designed to support a "wide range" of business functions, offering new career opportunities within the region.
This expansion not only underscores GEICO's confidence in Chicago and Cleveland's economic landscapes but also marks an ongoing commitment to the national workforce by creating job opportunities. Recognizing Illinois' dynamic business ecosystem, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker welcomed the new corporate presence, stating to the Chicago Sun-Times, "Not only will this expansion bring jobs and opportunity to the city of Chicago, it adds a dynamic corporate presence and committed community partner to Illinois’ business ecosystem." The addition of these new hubs by GEICO represents a significant investment in human capital and a reinforcement of their corporate footprint across key American markets.
